Dancer's Den Staff
Edwina graduated from UT with a B.A. in Education and has been teaching dance for 42 years. She grew up dancing at her mother’s studio, the Shirley McPhail School of Dance,. Edwina studied dance in 1974-75 at Sullins College in Bristol, VA, and then returned to UT to get her degree in Physical Education. She has been on the faculty for several dance conventions(TATD) and has taught at ‘Tap it Up!’ Ever since her mother’s death in 1997, she has continued the SMSD tradition of dance here in Austin. She has also served on the TATD Board of Directors for well over 20 years. Edwina is married to Neal Worley, is a handbell ringer, an active member of Community Bible Study, loves to fish and has two grown ‘dancing’ daughters, Elizabeth & Kristin.
To say that dancing and teaching is literally in my blood is an understatement as I am the granddaughter of Shirley McPhail and the youngest daughter of Edwina McPhail Worley. I began dancing at the age of three with Miss Trish… I mean, who didn’t? Growing up, I was always following in Miss Trish and Miss Teresa’s shadow, and knew that one day, I wanted to teach just like them. Luckily, that dream came true!
I graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduating, I taught 2nd grade in East Austin, and am now working at the studio and The Dancer’s Den full-time. I have such great passion learning the ropes of the family business, and can’t wait to start teaching the babies!
I LOVE my job and couldn’t ask for better bosses: my grandfather, Larry McPhail, and my mom, Edwina. I am so blessed to be able to share my grandmother’s love of dance with children and in my Austin community!
Kelly has been involved as a teacher and Manager at SMSD & the Dancers Den since 1986. She has also worked for Capezio and several other dance retail stores. She has been a member of Texas Association Teachers of Dance since 1995. Kelly does most of the studio’s and Dancer’s Den photography and video, and runs the websites for both Dancer’s Den and SMSD.
Tanci has been sharing her love of teaching dance for over 14 years and has lived in Austin for 8 years and has been an instructor at SMSD for the past 5 years.
Tanci is the new Mesa Studio manager as well as the Store Manager for the Mesa location Dancer’s Den. Tanci has been married to her wonderful husband, Brandon, for 6 years and hopes to start a family in the near future!
Amanda Hinchliffe grew up in Austin and dancing at SMSD. Her first teacher was Miss Trish and continued dancing up until high school in the SMSD Performing Troupe and then in high school as a member and officer of the Anderson High School Trojan Belles.
Amanda has her bachelors in Psychology from Texas State University and studied sign language at ACC. She also works at Austin Regional Clinic as a Patient Services Representative and takes several adult classes at SMSD.
She and her husband Gabriel have a daughter Trinity who is 4 and takes class from Miss Laure and Miss Trish at the Plaza location.
Bio and Photo coming soon!
Bursting onto the dance scene at the wee age of five in Tempe, AZ, Mandy Jay (MJ) Goerger was hooked for life on the groovy fever of dance! Lover of all styles, MJ finds the most pizzazz in the various styles of Jazz Dance! MJ has been a performer her entire life and has been in Austin since 1994 dedicating her services through unconditional volunteerism by training adult beginners and kiddos who possess a passion for dance, regardless of any previous experience, to recognize the star within and perform in her shows!! MJ is the Founder/Director of “MJ’s Fly Crew,” a variety revue style entertainment troupe that travels Texas and beyond producing shows to raise money for worthy causes and is available for hire for any special occasion or party! MJ is currently working on earning a Master’s degree in Professional Counseling at Texas State University, and plans to incorporate the performing arts into her therapeutic processes.
